The sun was trying to shine through the tall trees. It was trying to help keep the earth warm, but it was not succeeding very well. There was a light breeze that made the air feel ever cooler. A tall, skinny boy who was wearing brown shoes, dark jeans, a red flannel shirt, and a light leather jacket walked casually across the forest floor. His medium-length hair was shining an almond brown today and it blew lightly in the wind. His hands were stuffed in his pockets and his eyes were fixed on the ground. Even though he was one of the Dux Orphanus, his mind seemed to be distracted to many. Truth was that he was only considering the well being of the other orphans. A lot of the time Darrius was attempting to think of ways to make living in Oblitus easier for everyone. Especially the younger ones.
Life here in the forest wasn't bad, don't get me wrong. It was just hard for some. Even more so when one first arrived. Dar knew the welcoming committees tried their best to make the transition easier, but every single time a Nova Orphanus arrived he was there. He could see the fear and confusion on their faces. It took most of them weeks upon weeks to lose those facial expressions. It was part of his job to make sure everyone was felt safe and comfortable. There were times when this part of the job wasn't the easiest for him. He thought of the little girl who just arrived a few days ago. She was only seven. She spent the majority of the first day crying. Darrius was the only one she seemed to be comforted by. He ended up spending the night with her. She woke once in the middle of the night, screaming because of a nightmare. He promised to protect her and keep her safe. Truthfully he didn't get much sleep that night. He was so worried about her. He spent the time thinking of ways to make living here fun for her, instead of sleeping.
He let out a sigh as he reached the small pond. Sitting on one of the large boulders, he propped his knees against his chest and wrapped his arms around his legs. He rested his chin on his knees. The water was calm today, even with the breeze. Darrius could hear a few birds chirping here and there, along with some crickets. It seemed so quiet and peaceful today. He wondered why it was like this. Not complaining, he closed his eyes and took in the fresh air, thinking about many things.

The forest life had actually been calm for once today...which only made Addison question what was going on that she didn't know about. The air barely left goosebumps upon the top layer of skin. And though the sun was present, its rays were obviously not as powerful as the gentle breeze that was traveling through the lower regions of the forests. Wandering from shadow to shadow, Addison tried to gather her naturally scattered thoughts. Being a Dux Orphanus had some benefits, such as having a say in the decisions made around here, but also being a Dux Orphanus had some rather large responsibilities. Not only was Addison a welcoming committee, but she was also seen as a mother figure to most here. Her naturally compassionate nature helped contribute to this kind of title. Addison’s black shoes softly tapped against the log she had been walking across with each step. Once finally reaching the end of the log, Addison found herself by the lake. The lake was unusually calm compared to days prior, but Addison figured this was because of all the new orphans. There had been an unusual increase lately within their little village, which was both exciting and sad. Exciting because of all the new faces and new idea’s to be brought forth to Oblitus. But it was also sad that they had a significant increase because in order for these orphans to get here…they first had to be forgotten. Forgotten. Addison remembered the feeling from when she bounced from foster home to foster home until finally just being thrown away to an orphanage. Addison also understood the children’s reaction’s once first getting here; it was a state of confusion unlike any other. It’s near impossible to convince someone that magic was at all possible, especially a child who had wished upon a star every night their entire life and still didn’t get adopted. That happened to be Addison’s life at one point, which was what brought her to achieve the status she was at now. A swift wind woke Addison up from her thoughts, causing her to realize that someone else was also at the lake. It was obviously not a youngen due to the peace around the lake. Taking a few steps and looking a little closer, Addison realized soon it was Darrius. Darrius happened to be the other Dux Orphanus, in some sense they were partners in what they did to help Oblitus become a better place for all. Walking over to him, Addison could tell the various signs of stress upon his face. It looked as though Darrius hadn’t had a full night of sleep in a long time, which Addison hadn’t either but she couldn’t help but worry for him. Once finally reaching him, Addison sat beside him with her legs stretched out in front of her upon the boulder. “You need sleep.” Addison smirked slightly as she looked over at him. The two of them really were no good when they couldn’t think straight from sleep deprivation. This just happened to be one of the side effects of being in charge of an entire village. Giving a soft smile Addison nudged him softly. Sometimes their job was just comforting each other, when you needed someone to lean on then the other person was there and typically was going through the same situation. The benefit of having two. Even though it was late morning or early afternoon, depending on how you looked at it, it was still pretty quiet. Darrius couldn't remember the last time Oblitus seemed this still. It made him a little bit nervous. Recently there had been an increase of Novas. One would think there would be so much more commotion. It might be the cool weather today. He thought, trying to distract himself from worrying too much his eyes opened. Gazing out across the decent-sized pond, he took a deep breath that ended as a sigh. His heart ached knowing that some, like Lilith - the little girl he spent the night with - were suffering. He couldn't imagine anyone forgetting someone like her. She was adorable, smart, pretty much perfect. How could someone ever forget her? She was so young. It wasn't fair. Dar decided he would go and visit her later that day.
His thoughts were disturbed by the sound of the grass and leaves on the ground being stepped on. Although his eyes were open, he did not take his gaze from the pond. Adjusting his pose, he lifted his head and moved his arms to rest them on his knees. The source of the sound sat down beside him and Darrius finally looked at who it was. Her voice filled the previously silent atmosphere. You need sleep. A smirk grew on his face and he nodded and shrugged at the same time. "The trials and tribulations of being a Dux Orphanus, right?" He simply replied with a chuckle. His voice was soft and he tried to play it off as a joke, but he knew Addison would catch it. He could almost guarantee it. The female, brunette Dux Orphanus was very intelligent and compassionate. Her heart was always in the right place and she genuinely cared about everyone. As soon as she was chosen as the other Dux Orphanus, a few years after he was chosen, Darrius instantly knew why. Her personality fit the bill perfectly. He tried to help her out as much as he could when she first started, but she really didn't need it. In the end it was almost as if she helped him more than he helped her.
There were many times where Darrius would put every orphan in Oblitus before himself. His health would deteriorate slowly over time and Addison would always be the one to bring him back to reality and ordering him to sleep and eat. Those were two of the biggest functions his body required that he slacked off on a lot. Especially when he was stressed. Dar felt as though the other orphans were so much more important than he was. He took pride in caring for the younger ones. He believed that a part of him wanted to be seen as a real man. When Darrius was younger his father was never around. To be honest, Dar never even met him. It was possible that Darrius was compensating for his father’s lack of care and love by giving everything he could to everyone else. While this was a great and selfless thing, Addison would remind him that he was important as well. She would always ask if he became ill and couldn’t care for the orphans anymore, what good would that do anyone? Agreeing, Darrius would take time for himself. The male Dux Orphanus was extremely thankful to have Addison by his side – literally and figuratively. When she nudged him, he smiled and rested his cheek on his knee so that he was looking at her.

Giving Darrius a soft smile, Addison couldn't help but worry a little bit herself. She understood why he was so stressed, and being perfectly honest, she was stressed too. No matter what changed they made, or what tactics they tried...they couldn't seem to make the children adjust. Really all they could do was sooth the child and give them someone to lean on. Darrius and Addison had gotten very good at working together, even though Addison was the young Dux of the two. But even with such in tune team work, it seemed that once everything was going smoothly, they would get a whole new batch of kids in. Over the past few days, Addison actually had been dehydrated because she occupied most of her time trying to help children to adapt rather than taking care of herself, which was a natural flaw of a Dux. But seeing the children so very happy once they know that they are somewhere with people who will cherish their very being and love them, it all becomes worth it. Immediately Addison had caught onto his joke, smiling softly, she nodded her head. This had been proven time and time again through not only the Dux’s health, but their long term decision’s too. Each and every choice made, is made for the better of the children, and never for the better of the Dux’s. This had just been how it always played out, and this sort of system kept those who are greedy and tainted hearted from gaining power. Though they are both utterly compassionate about each and every child here in Oblitus, Darrius had always been the one to lose himself in the process. It wasn’t a negative factor; it was just what made Addison so perfect to be the other Dux. She could remind him constantly about his own health in a non nagging way, and she had always been confident in what she said and would do. Addison took this job as Dux very personal, just as Darrius does. It was probably because when in her youth, she had always wanted a family but with the drastic turn of events…that obviously didn’t happen. So she took it upon herself to take care of each of these children in whatever respect they wished from her, which most, thankfully, looked up to her as a motherly figure. Maybe it was because Darrius had been at this longer, but he looked at things so much more in depth then Addison. She, in some sense, still believe that faith will take its course. Addison had not faith in any ordinary orphanage, but at Oblitus, she believed that they were more of one big village…and a village such as this one, she could have faith in. Looking over at Darrius, Addison couldn’t help but smile as he smiled. He had always been a role model as she was growing up in some sense, but now she was working beside him and she couldn’t stand to see him torn down. After all, all orphans here deserved happiness. “Things will work out. Watch the moment we stop trying to figure out a solution, a solution will come our way.” Addison looked up at the sky for a few brief moments before looking back at Darrius. She actually did believe in this idea, merely because it happened on a daily basis. For example, when you lose something, the minute you need it then you can’t find it…but the minute you don’t need it, you can find it without breaking a sweat. For a brief moment Addison felt the urge to lean on Darrius…but in the end decided against it. Word wount: 610 Note: I do too! I think Addison might develop a crush for Darrius though..haha

Things will work out. Watch the moment we stop trying to figure out a solution, a solution will come our way. Addison's voice filled the air once more. Darrius nodded slowly. "I guess you're right. It's just..sometimes it doesn't feel that way. Everything can be so overwhelming at times, as you obviously know. I just.. " His voice trailed off for a moment as he looked out across the pond once more. Without turning back to look at her, he finished speaking, almost in a whisper. "I just don't want to fail them." It took him a few moments before he could look back at her. He had to compose the emotions on his face. When his eyes met Addison's he realized something wasn't right. Watching Addy's emotions run across her face, Darrius could tell something was bothering her. Whether she was trying to hide it or not he was unsure. He placed his hand on her leg, rubbing it a little. " How are you holding up?" Genuine concern clouded his face as he waited for a reply. Darrius had always believed in Addison. She was such a strong-willed person. This wasn’t to say that she didn’t have her weak moments. Everyone has them, especially when you are put in the position that these two were in. This life wasn’t easy at times, but the greatest reward was bringing together the orphans and creating one big family. That was one of the most important things every orphan was continuously searching for. Family. All they wanted was to be loved. Even if someone wasn’t blood related, they could still be considered family. That was another part of being a Dux Orphanus. They had to mold the community together and hold them there. A large part of that was keeping the peace between everyone. Not everyone was going to agree, arguments and fights were bound to happen, but it was the responsibility of each Dux Orphanus and each Vetus Orphanus to stop them from happening. Yes, the Dux Orphanus were higher in the food chain, but they were able to rely on the Vetus Orphanus plenty of times. Matter of fact, Darrius suddenly got an idea. Instead of stressing Addison and himself out, why not go to the Council for new ideas. There was never anything wrong with seeking help. “ What if we spoke to the Council? They might have some ideas we haven’t tried. With the amount of orphans showing up now and with how long orphans have been coming here there has to be a way to make the transition easier. There might be ideas in the history books at the Bibliotheca. I know we’ve already tried that, but it’s possible we missed something.” He waited for her thoughts on the matter, his hand still resting on her leg. New ideas were running through his mind now, excited at the possibility of finding any kind of clue. He smiled a little as he looked at Addison once more. If they were to actually find a way to help any of the Novas that would mean that there would be no more instances of Lilith’s case. With his mind on her once more he decided to bring up his thoughts from earlier. “ By the way.. You remember Lilith, right?” He asked, thinking of the little girl’s tears. It hurt him so much to see someone in such pain, especially since she was so little. No one should ever have to go through what any of them have, but it seems even worse when there are children like Lilith involved. “ I believe I’m going to mentor her. I know that she needs to get use to the others, but.. Well, I just think it would be best if she were with me right now.” He added, not sure of how Addison would react. It was unusual for any Dux Orphanus to mentor a Nova Orphanus. It wasn’t forbidden or unheard of, just very uncommon. The reason it was so rare was the fact that the responsibilities of each Dux Orphanus were so intense that they often didn’t have time to mentor anyone. Darrius hoped that Addison would approve, but couldn’t know for sure what her answer would be. _____________________

At the mere touch of Darrius, it seemed Addison had relaxed some from all of her thoughts. And though he was not a mind reader, Darrius could read her facials so very quickly. It was like he could just instantly tell with her when she was trying to hide something. Biting her bottom lip softly, Addison spoke carefully after he had asked his question. “I am alright.” It wasn’t a very sincere answer, but an answer none the less. Taking a deep breath, Addison held it for a few seconds before breathing out. They were both in a position of high power, which meant even the slightest of mistakes could hurt all of Oblitus. It was a lot of weight to carry on your shoulders at times, but that’s why the weight is distributed between the two. Addison typically told Darrius absolutely anything for she trusted him more then she trusted anyone else…but there was one secret Addison had kept locked away for a while now. She couldn’t help but smile around him and want to make him smile in return…Addison enjoyed each moment with him, even if at times they were a tad bit stressful. The two could lean on each other no matter what the situation, and the two could rely on each other to support one another. The two of them over all were close, but Addison had began to develop different emotions in the process of the two of them getting close. Emotions that she tried her best to keep locked away, but at times would accidently slip in her facial expression and actions. Adjusting her feet’s positioning, Addison looked over the pond as Darrius spoke again. Once he had finished Addision looked back up at him and nodded slightly. “It probably would be best to bring forth some new ideas. From Oblitus’s history, and from the council themselves.” At this point Darrius’s hand was still rested upon her leg, Addison tried to play it off like it wasn’t anything big, but the reality was that she enjoyed his mere touch. But being in such a stature, the same as him, she wasn’t sure if such emotions were even allowed. The subject manner had now changed from completely business to something that seemed a bit more personal. A girl a few days prior had came into Oblitus and had taken the abandonment far harder than most. In the process of getting her adjusted and comfortable in Oblitus, it had seemed the Darrius had bonded with the girl, the bond had seemed like a younger sister-older brother scenario. But none the less, the bond was obvious. When Darrius brought up Lilith, Addison nodded slightly, recognizing that she did in fact remember who she was. Soon after, Darrius began to carry on about possibly mentoring the girl. Of first instinct Addison would agree that the young girl did indeed need to be taken under someone’s wing, but she also did believe that the Lilith needed to associate with the other around Oblitus. Humming softly, Addison thought on this for a few moments as she starred off into the lake again. The wind seemed to catch up for a moment right before it utterly died down leaving a rippling affect across the lake. It was beautiful here, but at times Addison found herself wondering how her old room looks, and how the house looks. Addison found herself wondering about the entire world she had gotten snatched from and how it had changed…and if it had changed at all. Sighing softly before looking over at Darrius, Addison nodded slightly. “I do agree she needs someone, so without any doubt I would approve of it. Just make sure she is still growing accustom of everyone else here in Oblitus.” Smiling gently, Addison looked up into Darrius’s eyes, it really was nice seeing someone else care as much as she did…if not, more. Looking back over the lake and the serene forest that surrounds it, Addison allowed her smile to remain upon her face as she spoke softly. “It’s so peaceful today, the water seems so untouched by the world around it. Only the winds dance on its surface.” As Addison spoke, she looked back at Darrius with her bright brown eyes. Typically she did see things different then others, but Darrius always seemed to understand her anyways. word Count: 730 Notes: woooooottt!

DARRIUS WATSON

_____________________
I am alright. Darrius shook his head and chuckled softly. After all these years they spent together he would've thought she would've been smarter than that. He thought she would’ve just told him the truth or at least try and hide it a little bit better. Maybe she was just so stressed she didn't even think about it. Or it was possible that she was so stressed that she didn’t want to hide it. Darrius wasn’t sure of what was going through her mind, but he sincerely wanted to know. "Do you really think I'm going to let you get away with that answer? C'mon, tell me what's wrong." He said gently, watching her with a small smile on his face.
The breeze picked up a bit and the air was chilled once more. The clouds were starting to fight the sun with more intensity and it looked like they would win. Darrius took a deep breath feeling calmed by the quiet. It also helped to have Addison to talk to right now. She was easily someone Dar would consider his best friend. Her outgoing personality and caring demeanor made her instantly attractive. Maybe not so much in the sense that he would ever have the guts to start a relationship with her, but to be honest he had never considered it. She was someone who could brighten anyone's day. The way some of the young ones would run up to her was so comforting. Addy was definitely someone he and everyone in Oblitus could trust. There was no doubt about that. Over the years Darrius also recognized that Addison would often fight for the underdogs. Making sure to take special care of any orphan she saw being mistreated. Her temper was controlled well when dealing with the bullies around her. He was proud of the progress she had made since first coming to Oblitus.
When Addison spoke again he nodded in agreement. “It kills me to see them suffer so much. There has to be a way to make it easier. I just wish we could find it sooner rather than later.” He added with a sigh. Removing he hand from her leg, not really taking notice of how long it rested there, Darrius rubbed his face and ran his hand through his hair. He was curious to know why no one had found an answer yet. According to history books in the Bibliotheca this place had existed over hundreds and hundreds of years. Was no one truly concerned about how effected the Novas were when they first arrived? Did no one care as much as Addy and he seemed to now? He wanted to know the answers and he wanted to know them now. Addison’s voice broke him from his reverie.
A sigh of relief escaped his body. Although Darrius was unsure of what he would have done had she said no, he was still relieved to have her on his side. There was something about this little one that worried him more than normal. They bonded almost immediately and it was as if she already had a special place in his heart. He would make sure that she learned as much as possible and that she became attuned to life here at Oblitus as soon as possible. “Thank you. I’m going to see her later today. I’ll give her the news then. I know it’s bound to spread like wildfire once someone else finds out.” Being the mentee of a Dux Orphanus had its perks some believed. Darrius was determined to make sure that everyone in Oblitus was treated equally. Lilith would be no exception. He hoped Addison realized this.
It’s so peaceful today, the water seems so untouched by the world around it. Only the winds dance on its surface. Darrius smiled directly back at Addison. She was so easy to get along with. Clearly a simple, down-to-earth girl. "I agree. It worries me a little seeing as it is so quiet. I wonder what we are missing. ” He said laughing as he leaned back on the rock, looking up at the trees he closed his eyes taking in a few deep breaths much more relaxed than earlier. _____________________

“Those who do not weep, do not see.” It was interesting how well Darrius knew her, she should have expected for him to catch on to her body signals immediately. Smiling softly, Addison hesitated now. How dearly Addison wished to tell him what she had been hiding, but the very thought of telling him her emotions froze her. At first, Addison found herself trying to come up with any excuse in the book, but Addison did hate lying to him so she merely sighed. “It’s not important, really, we have bigger things to worry about right now.” Giving a sincere smile, Addison fidgeted with her hair for a brief moment before allowing her hands to fall back upon the boulder beside her.
It seemed as though everything was getting colder now, but that was the weather of Oblitus for you. Her mind seemed clouded now; everything was a twister of thoughts. Years upon years this orphanage had been present, before anyone could remember…and Addison wondered at time if they had issues back then like they do now. This very problem was exactly what had kept Addison up nights without end. Addison did have a few ideas here and there but they were much more complicated then it seemed. If only she knew thing about the children from their life before… There just didn’t seem anything Addison could do. This made her want to rip her own hair out half of the time. She had even considered creating a welcoming group…Which would have each Nova who entered here, to have a older mentor. Not necessarily being one of the Dux’s, but that was also a possibility if they offered themselves up for it. It was always better to have someone, rather than no one. Addison had written idea after idea, over and over again trying to figure out some way to help others enter here.
Sighing and allowing herself to unravel from her thoughts, Addison leaned back to lay against the boulder. Every passing moment, Addison only searched for a better living for the citizens of Oblitus. Addison had hardly eaten anything in the last couple days, but she could play it off perfectly by just being her normal self and smiling no matter what the situation. Sleep was rare, but that was a normal traits of Dux leaders. Running her fingers through her hair, Addison began observing the various cloud that were taking over the sky. It was amazing how no cloud was ever alike and how they all seemed to bring something different to the sky. And if Addison was lucky, then the cloud would also bring one massive storm…something Addison without a doubt, loved. She loved the chaos that the weather brought without even trying, and she loved watching all the elements work on the same team to bring such chaos…but something she loved even more, was the peace after the chaos. The Earth’s sigh of relief once it knows that it once again is at peace.
Like a huge storm, it seemed Oblitus was similar. After all the new Nova’s that they had gotten, at some point there was expected to be the peace. It was just a cycle that Addison had grown accustom to, but at times…Oblitus was far from any cycle. Addison had been listening to Darrius the entire time, she just had been so caught up in her thoughts that she couldn’t focus enough to respond. Looking over at him as he also leaned back, Addison couldn’t help but laugh softly. It really was a tad bit worrying not knowing where everyone was, but not worrying to the point where Addison would go hunt each of them down. She hoped that they merely weren’t here today because the clouds were expectant of rain. And she hoped all the more that the children were all intermingling to help relieve some of the Nova’s. “Can just hope the best from the peace, they are good kids so I have faith in them.” Smiling softly, Addison observed the clouds that were growing more and more fluffy by the minute, looking back over at Darrius, Addison continued to smile very softly. “Do you think it will rain?” Word Count: 700 Musical Inspiration: n/a Characters emotion: A little bit stressed, but hiding emotions more so. _____________________
When Addison's voice filled the air once more Darrius turned his body and laid on his side, facing her. He propped himself up with his elbow on the rock and his hand on his face. Something wasn't right. Darrius was sure of it now. If Addison was unable or unwilling to tell him what was bothering it must have some importance. He noted how she became almost nervous when she spoke. It was unlike them to keep secrets, but Darrius was not one to push someone. Particularly if they seemed like they truly didn’t want to talk about something. He sighed quietly and looked at her confused. "Ad, you know you can tell me anything...Right? Well, I guess if you're sure.." He said, not wanting to force her to talk, just worried.
Darrius watched as she played with her hair. It was a common habit for Addison and Darrius was just now catching on to exactly how common. Her long brown locks were draped over the boulder as she laid there next to him. Even though the sun was no longer shining, he could felt warmth and could see light radiating off of this girl. She could always bring a smile to someone's face. It was so easy to get along with her. Dar was curious to know why today brought on these thoughts. How long had he known her and he was just now thinking of all this? He figured it was just because he was bored. With that fleeting moment gone he looked past Addison out into the forest. A few orphans were running around the tree-houses, but he was unable to tell who they were.
Darrius sighed as the two Dux Orphanus sat in silence. His mind wandered here and there, but mainly came back to what was Addison thinking about. Even though he had answered her questions and brought up new topics she barely took notice. His anxieties were beginning to grow again and wondered if something was physically ailing Addison. Understandably the Dux Orphanus were prone to forgetting to take care of themselves. Darrius wondered how long it had been since Addy had eaten or slept. It was possible that she didn’t want him to worry so much about her health compared to his own. Unfortunately if that was the plan it wasn’t working. He let out another sigh just before her voice started once more. Can just hope the best from the peace, they are good kids so I have faith in them. Darrius silently nodded in agreement. Addison’s voice continued, Do you think it will rain? Dar’s gaze drifted from her to the sky. The clouds were growing darker and he knew how much she enjoyed storms, but inside he really hoped the sun would come back out and it would warm up again. “I’m not sure. It sure looks like it, doesn’t it?” He said, his gaze drifting back down to her face once more.

“Those who do not weep, do not see.” Looking up at the clouds as Darrius answered her question; Addison smiled and rolled onto her side so she could face him. Something about the rain comforted her and let her know that the emotions she felt were really okay. The rain was something beautiful that fed the Earth, and Addison expected the emotions she felt for Darrius was sorta the same. She didn't really know how, but she really didn't need to explain to herself her own philosophy. The rain brought some forms of comfort to Addison, but also raised her confidence. Looking over at Darrius, Addison couldn’t help but adore his smile, but she despised to see him worried about her. There were bigger problems to handle around here, and Addison never wanted to screw that up. But at the same time, if such things as this were bothering her…then she wondered if she should bring it up. Such a confusing situation…
Addison did in fact know that she could tell him anything…But emotions seemed to be different than merely telling him. Softly place her fingers on both sides of his lip’s, she tried to form a smile upon his face. “Smile,” She spoke softly as she removed her fingers from his soft skin. It was her job to always remind him that his smile was important to not only her, but all of Oblitus. A simple smile could alter an entire situation from something awkward and wrong, to something special. Relaxing more so on her side, Addison watched Darrius and his body language…she hated being awkward around him, or even hiding something from him. The two Dux’s were supposed to have utter trust in each other, and though Addison did trust him, she wasn’t sure if she trusted herself.
Hearing the rain begin to erupt from above, Addison grew with confidence and tried not to double think herself. When she thought about her actions, that’s typically when she would back down. It was acting off impulse, that’s what made Addison herself, and when she thought about her actions…she seemed different. But in a situation such as this, Addison could not help but think about what she was doing. This man happened to be her best friend, a role model, someone who had been there for her when no one else was…And all she could think about was ruining such a relationship. The truth was though; she could no longer try to hide something that she obviously no longer locked away. She no longer wanted to seem like she didn’t trust him, and she no longer wanted to feel like she was lying to him. It was finally time to take a risk. Leaning her face slightly closer to Darrius’s, Addison almost apologized for a moment but instead, she acted off impulse.
It was an act of utter stupidity, but something that Addison never regretted. When her lips softly brushed against his, no words were needed. It was a mere second, but she hoped that the second spoke for itself. She began to develop butterflies in her stomach at the mere thought of what she had done, but she could only smile and look down for a moment before looking back at Darrius. “Now there’s no more secrets.” Addison sat up slightly and began to contemplate what she had just done…it was nerve racking but also seemed so natural. Of course, it was nothing Addison had actually planned on doing, but her mind had already decided for her. Breathing out softly, Addison allowed herself to forget about the stress, and to relax. Her gentle smile remained on her face as she looked over at Darrius slightly. Darrius watched as Addison readjusted herself, just as he had done moments ago. She seemed to be thinking intensely about something. It was as if she were weighing an idea out in her head. Dar wasn’t sure if he should press her again, it wasn’t like her to act in such a way. He just wished she knew that no matter what it was that was troubling her; he would be there for her, no matter what. If they began to keep things from each other it could become extremely problematic. Not only were they the Dux Orphanus together they were also best friends. In no way, shape, or form did Darrius want their relationship to become awkward because they couldn’t tell each other everything. That would tear him apart. He didn’t want to lose such an important piece of his life because of some silly secret.
Darrius couldn’t recall a time where Addison or even himself seemed to question their ability of trust. When Addison reached across the small space between them to try and force a smile out of him, it worked. And yet at the same time his heart skipped a beat as her fingers came in contact with his face. He was unsure of why. Things were never so complicated between the two and now all of sudden everything was different. He watched Addison’s face closely as she seemed to relax. He was so curious as to what was going on in her head. Almost asking again, he forced himself to stop. If she doesn’t want to tell me she doesn’t have to. When it’s the right time she’ll let me in on what is going on. He told himself, still smiling faintly.
Then the rain came. At first it started off as a simple drizzle, Darrius looked towards the sky and contemplated getting up and heading to shelter. Even though rain and storms were Addison’s favorite weather, they were the complete opposite of Darrius’s. He wanted sunshine and warmth. Not clouds and wet. Turning his attention back to Addison he noticed something different in her gaze when they made eye contact. Cautiously watching as she moved her face closer to his, he wondered what on earth she was doing. And then it happened. Her soft lips gently pressed against his. His initial reaction was to pull away and yet, in truth all he wanted was for it to last longer. As quickly as Addison moved her face towards his, she moved it away from him. Surprised, shocked, stunned, this kid had no idea how to react. Before he even had the chance to begin speaking Addy’s voice traveled to his ears. Now there’s no more secrets.
Darrius was flabbergasted. Never in a million years would he have imagined himself with Addison in that way. Not because she isn’t who he wanted, but because he never thought about that. His main concern and top priority were the orphans. He never thought about relationships. Sure the other orphans had them all the time, but he was never one to think about it too much. Darrius thought about how he felt the moment Addison took this huge risk and to be honest it felt so natural. It was almost expected. The two of them had known each other for so long it was amazing this hadn’t happened before.
Raindrops began to fall more quickly and in larger numbers, yet Darrius just sat there unsure of what to say to her. Nothing like this had ever happened to him before. He wasn’t even sure it was allowed for the Dux Orphanus to be in a relationship like this, not that he didn’t want it. When Addison sat up it took him a moment, but he did as well. Watching her look out at the water again he bit his bottom lip. Cautiously he placed his hand on her back as gently as he could. “Addy...” He whispered, not sure of how to continue. There were no words for what he was feeling. Was it possible Addison felt the same way moments ago, which is what resulted in this kiss.
When she looked back at him with that small smile on her face, his other hand slowly reached up for her cheek. Moving his face closer to hers, he hesitated a moment, but decided to take the same risk Addison had just moments ago. He pressed his lips to hers, but kept them there longer than she had. His kiss wasn’t as soft either. Darrius was still gentle, but it wasn’t just a peck on the lips. He let it last so that it would linger longer than hers. He felt as though they both needed that comfort.

“Those who do not weep, do not see.” While waiting for a response from him, Addison did have butterflies in her stomach but at the same time, she had been relieved. Something like that stuck on your chest wasn’t something that you just carried around every day. Now, she waited. Of course she didn’t wait in complete pressure, she knew whatever happened next happened for the better. Never before had she even heard of Dux’s being a couple…in all reality, she didn’t even know it was allowed. But she couldn’t help where her emotions led her, and the burden of not telling him was only holding her down, so she did what was for the better of not only her, but the two of them. If she seemed as though she was holding things back, then it would seem as though she didn’t trust him…Which is a huge danger especially as Dux’s. Even on the slight chance that he did like her back, she knew that such a thing would have to go before the council…it would only be fair.
As the rain thickened, it seemed so did the air around them. The situation wasn’t something that just happened every day, at least not for these two. And today this was the last thing that Addison had expected to happen. Sure Addison expected to speak some about the large growth in the community, and to speak about what they could do to help advance Oblitus…but she didn’t expect to give away her last secret to the very man the secret was about.
The rain continued, but with time it grew stronger to a full out rain storm. But even the rain seemed as though it couldn’t interrupt what had just happened between the two. She had figured the surprise he was going through now, but that was to be expected…Even Addison had surprised herself when she finally figured out that she did indeed care about him more than just best friends. Addison knew that this would probably come with complications, but she never asked this upon herself. Just as a kid doesn’t get to request the family they are born into, Addison hadn’t requested to fall for Dar. Addison did love when he used her nickname, merely because he was really the only one who actually would use it…but when he placed his hand on her back, Addison for a brief moment misread the action. And for a brief moment, Addison’s heart dropped. It seemed as though he was about to explain why such things didn’t work.
She got a surprise instead. Instead of being told why such feelings shouldn’t be felt, she received the gentleness of his hand against her cheek. The warmth of his very skin being in contact with her own surprised Addison all itself, but then his face came closer to hers. He too seemed just as nervous as Addison was before she kissed him, but the way the two looked at each other now had changed. It happened again. That soft and sensual sensation of his lips, but this time it had been different…he had kissed her. It was no mere peck and lasted several moments, but each moment was something that Addison had began to cherish. All of this seemed so natural, and yet, so special. Addison wasn’t sure if it was wrong to feel such emotions as a Dux’s….but she didn’t feel guilt for her actions, she had guilt that she had held onto this secret for this long. The kiss seemed to relax each thoughts and muscle within Addison’s body, giving her comfort that needed. And she only hoped that she didn’t add all the more stress to Dar. Before Addison knew it, this kiss that had meant so much to her, had now ended. When Darrius pulled away, Addison’s facials were probably obvious, pure shock.
With the secret released, Addison didn’t hesitate to lean her head on his shoulder this time like she had last time. Instead of allowing obstacles get her way, Addison did what felt right to her. Though at times she did feel some slight collision on what was right, and what felt right to her…Thankfully in this situation both felt right. The entire time it had seemed that Addison had been at a loss for words, anything that she could say at this time just didn’t seem right. Closing her eyes softly, Addison enjoyed the moment as the rain beat at the ground in various rhythms. “Dary..I’m sorry…” The biggest reason that Addison really was sorry, was because she kept a secret from him in general. Though Addison knew this moment wouldn’t last forever, because there were always complications that they’d have to deal with if this was really what she interpreted this as, but for the moment, she enjoyed each and every second of it. Pausing a few moments Addison enjoyed the rain, she opened her eyes and looked back up at Dary. Today really was full of surprises. As exciting as these feelings were, Darrius was calmer than he had been in a while. It wasn't exactly as though something had changed. Maybe it was because they both had these feelings for so long it was just natural to turn to each other in this way. He took a deep breath thinking back on all that had happened lately. With the increase of orphans the two Dux Orphnaus had spent severely less time than normal for them. Yet when they were together it was as if they chased each other’s stress away.
Maybe this was a good thing for both of them. Sure, it wasn’t what Darrius expected, but he wasn’t going to complain if Addy and he were happy. There was only one small problem. Dar had never heard of Dux’s actually being in a relationship. He wasn’t even sure if it was technically legal. Either way this Dux Orphanus wasn’t ready to lose something he gained so recently. His heart sank at just the thought of it.
He watched her reaction to his kiss as the rain pounded down harder. He never thought his life was missing anything. Now that Addison had entered his mind as someone more important than a best friend he couldn’t bear the thought of losing her. When she leaned her head on his shoulder he smiled. He moved his body closer to her, wrapping his arms protectively around her. Giving the top of her head a soft kiss he then rested his cheek gently on the top of her crown. As the two became drenched with the rain Darrius shivered a little bit. Concerned about Addison’s comfort more than his he was about to ask if she wanted to go inside, but her voice cut his thoughts off. Dary..I’m sorry…
Confusion spread across his face, he pulled back a few inches to get a better look at her face. He had no idea of what she had to apologize for. His heart sank a little and he became nervous again. Was this her way of expressing regret? He honestly hoped not. What a tease if she shook up all these feelings and then told him they couldn’t be together. Even if there was still the risk from the Council, Darrius had some powers and quite possibly could override them. But there was no way to change or force Addison’s feelings. Taking another deep breath, he looked at her once more. “Ad, what… I don’t understand. Why are you apologizing? There is nothing to be sorry for. So you addressed your feelings. That is nothing to be sorry for. Ever. It might not be the best timing, but that isn’t a reason to regret it. We’ll get through this.” He said, taking one of her hands and giving it a light squeeze while wrapping his other arm around her shoulder again. Once more he kissed the top of her head and then let out a sigh.

“Those who do not weep, do not see.” It was all natural, the feelings they were expressing towards each other without a single world needing to be said. Addison had been so very excited, but she felt some form of peace now. The rain had continued to pour down onto the two of them, and Addison felt as Darrius shook slightly from the chill of the weather. It had been rather radical change of weather and events, but not something that Addison regretted at all. Looking up at him Addison tipped her head slightly as he addressed her on her apology. There was a slight tint of urgency in his voice which alerted Addison.
“I don’t regret telling you...I just hate putting you through more stress. I am supposed to help relieve the stress and instead I might be making it worst. “Nuzzling his shoulder softly, Addison looked back up at him and tried to read his facials. “I don’t take back a thing with you, and I don’t take back this. You’re right, we will get through this.” Squeezing his hand softly back, Addison felt security within his arms. Addison had never felt such security in anyone, even within the real world. On a normal basis, Addison was forced to be her own security, but with Dar here…Addison knew she could trust and rely on someone else besides herself. Kissing his check very softly to reassure him, Addison couldn’t help but smile. She hadn’t the slightest clue why fate had ended up this way, but she was grateful.
Seeing as Dar was already cold, and the last thing Oblitus needed was either or even both Dux’s sick, Addison stood up and put out both her hands to help Dar also up. They should probably head inside, or at least head somewhere out of the rain. “Come on,” She said softly as she helped him up. Heading out of the rain, Addison allowed Darrius to lead the way merely because she wasn’t sure where he wanted to go. Taking his hand very softly, Addison adored his warm and gentle hands. Once reaching the tree’s Addison’s thoughts began to spark up again, how were they going to do this? Addison hadn’t the slightest clue if Dux’s were allowed to be together, and to be honest…she was kind of scared that they would be denied to be in a relationship. Biting her lip softly, Addison looked at Darrius curiously.
“What are we going to do?” For a brief moment Addison looked down at the ground below them and then back up at him. Putting their relationship out publicly could cause massive issues within the community, but keeping it hidden could just add to the two’s stress. Addison’s best guess was keeping their relationship a secret for now until the perfect moment to bring it out…then she was positive that the two would have to pass the relationship through council either way…so might as well buy themselves some time until then. But Addison also wanted to hear any of Darrius’s idea that he may have.
“Everything will work out” Addison sighed finally. This was more assurance to herself that she didn’t need to stress so much. The more you stress the worst it can make the situation, so Addison decided to just let it roll off her shoulders. The emotions were so natural that she felt as though the relationship between the two was also. Leaning against him, Addison smiled up at him and repeated her reassurance one last time. “It will work out.” Word Count: 600 Musical Inspiration: n/a Characters emotion: Curious, but happy Notes: Going into the plot

His heart and mind were set as ease once Addison began speaking. She didn’t regret her feelings. Darrius couldn’t help but smile. I don’t regret telling you...I just hate putting you through more stress. I am supposed to help relieve the stress and instead I might be making it worse. Slowly Dar shook his head in disagreement. “No, Addison. You aren’t the cause of my stress. Ever. You’re the one who is always able to calm me down, no matter what. If I didn’t have you by my side all these years, I would’ve lost my mind by now.” He rubbed her arm gently when she cuddled closer to him. I don’t take back a thing with you, and I don’t take back this. You’re right, we will get through this. This time Darrius nodded in agreement, feeling her squeeze his hand back. “We’ll figure it out. We are two pretty smart people.” He added with a chuckle.
Her lips grazed her cheek and he couldn’t help but smile. What were they doing? This had started off as some horribly stressful day and now they were acting like two love-sick birds. Darrius couldn’t be upset or disappointed. At this point in his life he was still happy, if not even more happy than he was. Moments before this snowball started, he was so worried and focused on the Novas, especially Lilith, and now he had some kind of new meaning to his life. He felt as though it was his responsibility to care for Addison in a way he never felt before. In seconds she had become one of his top priorities, even though she was high on the list before somehow her ranked moved up. It was a ridiculous way of looking at it, but at this point wasn’t a lot of stuff ridiculous?
As Addison pulled away from him, he held his breath. Concerned as to why she was moving away from him for just a brief second he relaxed as she held out her hands to help him up. He couldn’t let his heart do this. He couldn’t become so completely involved with her that he lost sight of everything else. Taking her hands, which were so soft and warm, he smiled. Standing up he kissed her once more, as one of his hands rested upon the small of her back and the other found her cheek once more. They then proceeded to move towards the tree-houses, still holding hands. When her voice started again Darrius stopped walking and looked at her face. What are we going to do? He could tell she was sincerely worried and he was as well.
Throughout all of his years here he had never head of the two Dux Orphanus being in a romantic relationship. He had no idea what any of the other would say, especially the council. He assumed that a lot of the older orphans might have problems with it. But the younger ones probably wouldn’t care. They might see it as a benefit, like a real “mom” and “dad” scenario. The council had the possibility of refusing Addison and Darrius from seeing each other in that fashion, but Dux Orphanus outranked the Vetus Orphanus. It was a complicated situation, but there was a solution. The only thing now was to find that answer. Darrius sighed out loud. The two of them seemed to be searching for answers to all kinds of questions lately. It was a little frustrating, particularly since they hadn’t found many.
“We’re going to do us. This changes nothing about us, especially as the leaders of this community. We are still who we were this morning. We are still the Dux Orphanus. I’m not sure what everyone is going to say or even what they’ll do, but we won’t take no for an answer. Addison, if we love each other…Well then we shouldn’t have to hide it.” His voice and temper were rising a bit. He wasn’t yelling, but he sure wasn’t whispering either. And he wasn’t upset with Addison; he was upset with the thought that anyone would deny them their feelings. Expression of one’s self should always be welcomed, not down trod. Everything will work out. Darrius nodded, wrapping his arms around her, embracing her in a hug and kissing her forehead as his eyes looked on the horizon to see if anyone was watching. “Maybe we should get changed. You could come over to my room when you’re done?” He said, leaving it as a question. Of course it was Addison’s decision, but he didn’t think she’d object.
